Hey folks, it’s Randy here, and I’ve got to talk about the WeMo Smart Video Doorbell I recently snagged. Being quite the enthusiast for smart home tech, this one really stood out with its Apple HomeKit integration, promising to sync up smoothly with my other devices. So, naturally, I dove right in to see how it held up in real-world use. Here’s the rundown on my experience.
Starting off, the Apple HomeKit integration is a big plus. It’s super convenient getting notifications straight on my iPhone—no need to juggle multiple apps to see who’s at the door. The doorbell also boasts a 223° field of view which is pretty wide, catching almost everything at my doorstep. This is fantastic for keeping an eye on any movement around the front of my house, ensuring nothing goes unnoticed.

The night vision capability of this doorbell surprised me too. It switches to infrared in low-light conditions and does a solid job of giving a clear picture, which makes me feel quite secure after dark. Another feature I appreciate is the 10-day motion-based recording. It stores the footage securely and it’s easy to access if I ever need to review something specific from the past few days.
However, it’s not all perfect. I’ve had a few hiccups with its performance. The mounting setup felt a bit flimsy to me. The angle mount doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence in its durability, which is something you don’t want to worry about for a device that’s guarding your front door.

Overall, the WeMo Smart Video Doorbell packs a punch with features perfect for anyone deep in the Apple ecosystem. The wide viewing angle and dependable night vision are standout features for sure. But the occasional connectivity issues and the less-than-sturdy mounting might be dealbreakers for some. If you’re looking for a doorbell that integrates seamlessly with HomeKit and offers decent features, this could be a good fit. However, if reliability and build quality are your top priorities, you might want to look at other options.
In a nutshell, while the WeMo doorbell has its perks, especially for an Apple user like me, it does have areas that could use some improvement. Whether it’s the right choice depends on what you value most in your smart home setup.
